It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to winter escapes. With the winter months being a popular time for sports holidays, from skiing in colder climates to golfing in the winter sun, it’s important to review your travel insurance policy as going on a sports holiday without the right cover can invalidate the entire policy.
You are more likely to get hurt on a holiday where you are participating in sports activities. Make sure the sporting activity is covered or you may need to extend the policy to cover your activity so that you are fully protected in case things go downhill. Read on to find out the key things that your policy should include.
1) Keep yourself safe
Your policy should cover you for emergency medical treatment if you become ill or get injured. Make sure this includes mountain search and rescue expenses, helicopter evacuation costs and physiotherapy costs.
2) Protect your sports equipment
It’s important to make sure that your sports equipment is also covered, in case it gets lost, stolen or damaged. This includes purchasing the correct cover for any equipment you plan to take with you, such as golf clubs and skiing equipment. Be sure to check your policy conditions as some may have special requirements, such as wearing a helmet at all times.
3) Prepare for the unexpected
Some things are completely out of your control, like adverse weather conditions. Be prepared in case something unexpected happens and make sure you are covered if your holiday is delayed because of bad weather, if you are unable to ski because the slopes are closed, or if your ski pass is stolen.
4) Cover yourself if going off-piste
If you like getting off the beaten track and are planning on going skiing off-piste, check your policy as some will require you to go with a guide to receive cover.
