Health and Wellbeing Support Isn’t Just Good for Employees. It’s Good for Business too.

Supporting employee health and wellbeing has long been recognised as an important part of being a responsible employer. But according to new research from Everywhen, employers are also seeing clear business benefits from investing in their workforce’s wellbeing.

The employee benefits consultancy surveyed 500 UK HR decision-makers and found that improved productivity was the most commonly reported advantage of providing health and wellbeing support, with 40% of employers identifying it as a key benefit. Increased staff retention (39%) and greater employee loyalty (38%) followed closely behind.

The findings suggest that organisations aren’t just supporting employee wellbeing because it’s the right thing to do. They’re also seeing positive outcomes that can strengthen business performance.

The Wider Benefits of Wellbeing Support

Alongside productivity and retention, employers highlighted several other advantages of investing in employee wellbeing.

More than a third (35%) said supporting employee health and wellbeing was simply the right thing to do, while 34% felt it helped reinforce their organisation’s culture and values. Other reported benefits included increased employee engagement (29%) and reduced absenteeism (28%).

Employers also recognised the role wellbeing support can play in attracting new talent. One in five (20%) said it helps with recruitment, while 18% cited compliance with minimum legislative requirements. A further 16% said it can help reduce costs and expenses.

Getting the Most from your Wellbeing Strategy

Employee expectations around workplace wellbeing continue to evolve. As a result, employers may benefit from regularly reviewing the support they provide and whether it remains relevant to their workforce.

A wellbeing strategy that is clearly communicated and aligned with employees’ needs can help create a more engaged workforce while supporting broader business objectives, from productivity and retention to recruitment and culture.

For employers looking to review their current arrangements, seeking professional advice can help ensure wellbeing benefits are delivering the greatest possible value for both the organisation and its people.
