Welsh Broker Leads the Way Against Cybercrime Risks

13 Jul

To support an increasing demand for data and cyber risk advice from Welsh businesses, Thomas Carroll Group has appointed Emma Buckley as our dedicated Cyber Executive.

As a Welsh independent insurance broking, risk and wealth planning company, we insure data and digital risks for some of Wales’ leading businesses, including the National Botanic Garden of Wales near Carmarthen.

Huw Davies, Head of Facilities at the National Botanic Garden of Wales said:

“In today’s technology filled world, it is important that the Welsh business community seeks the right advice to protect itself from cybercrime and accidental data breaches. Only when you consider your own risks do you understand that a cyber breach can be caused by seemingly small things like the loss of a USB stick, laptop or phone – which could happen to any of us.

Working closely with Thomas Carroll, we have a plan in place to help reduce our cyber risk exposure. This includes an investigation and recovery procedure that would enable us to maintain normal business operations if we were to experience a cyber breach. As an iconic visitor destination in Wales, it is important to consider the impact a breach could have on our brand and I would urge other businesses to do the same.”

With 10 years’ experience in commercial insurance, Emma Buckley specialises in digital risks and cyber insurance. Emma said:

“It is a common misconception that only organisations trading online are vulnerable. When in fact, anyone storing or processing electronic information is increasingly prone to risks. Unfortunately, it is often that businesses only realise the level of risk they face when they experience a cyber breach.

Regardless of the size of your business or whether you outsource your I.T, you are still at risk of cybercrime and responsible for your data. Hackers are known to exploit vulnerabilities in software which could be used by many companies. How you respond to a cyber breach is vital. If the worst does happen, having a reliable insurance policy in place will help avoid business interruption, financial and reputational loss.”

Gareth Cotty, Managing Director here at Thomas Carroll said:

“Our clients are increasingly asking us about cyber security. With the digital world being so fast-paced, Emma’s appointment facilitates dedicated expertise in this area so Thomas Carroll can remain at the forefront of cybercrime developments in the insurance industry. It is rare for brokers to have this level of expertise in-house.

By investing in regular training and maintaining a high level of knowledge around data and digital risks, we provide continued value and peace of mind for our clients across Wales and further afield.”

We have Thomas Carroll offices in Newport, Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Hereford and London in addition to our headquarters in Caerphilly.

Everyone at Thomas Carroll would like to wish Emma the best of luck in her new role!
