Preventing Work-Related Stress

31 Jan

According to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) latest figures, half of all reported ill-health is related to stress, depression or anxiety. That’s an estimated 776,000 cases, with each person taking an average of 21.1 days off work.

Does This Apply to You?

Irrespective of the size of organisation or sector, the law requires all employers prevent work-related stress and support mental health in the workplace.

That means including stress within the risk assessment process and acting upon it!

Learn How to Prevent Stress in Five Steps

The HSE has developed some useful tools, templates and information that will allow you to proactively prevent stress and support good mental health at work.

  • Reach out and have conversations – Stress Talking Toolkits are designed to help managers talk to employees, as part of their overall approach to preventing and managing work-related stress.
  • Recognise the signs and causes of stress – the Stress Indicator Tool is a free online survey, designed to gather data anonymously from employees and help identify areas to improve to prevent and manage work-related stress.
  • Respond to any risks you’ve identified.
  • Reflect on actions you’ve agreed and taken.
  • Routine – make this part of your everyday.
