It’s been 5 years since we opened Thomas Carroll’s third regional office in Pembrokeshire. We recently celebrated this milestone year, as well as our office move to Avallenau House.
Unlike a call centre approach, our local office brings us closer to our clients so that we can provide a personal service. That’s why we thought it would make sense to introduce you to our team in West Wales. Read on to get to know them, or even pop in – they would love to meet you.
Simon Lawrence – Branch Director
With a total of 30 years’ experience working in the Pembrokeshire insurance industry, Simon moved to Thomas Carroll to head up the Pembrokeshire branch 5 years ago. In addition to being Branch Director, Simon also has an increasing client account. Many of them have been with him for over 20 years.
Thomas Carroll’s Chartered status, full independence and client-focused ethos is what drives Simon and he is currently working towards growing our brand in Pembrokeshire. With the wide range of businesses that we act for, every day is different, and Simon enjoys the diversity that comes with his role.
Simon is married with 2 children. In his spare time, Simon’s interests lie in music, reading and walking. He enjoys most sports, but particularly football and cycling.
Claire Sutton – Account Manager
Claire started her career in the insurance field as soon as she left school. Following time at NIG, Aviva and Hedley Davies, Claire joined Thomas Carroll’s Pembrokeshire branch in 2014 as an Account Broker.
In 2017, Claire was promoted to Account Manager and enjoys the diverse aspects of the role, from account management to technical broking, supporting local events and working closely with the marketing team. Claire received her CII diploma qualification in 2018.
Claire is married with two young children and likes to socialise with friends when the kids aren’t driving her mad (her words, not ours!).
Andrew Barker – Account Executive
Andrew started working in the insurance industry as soon as he left school. He spent 11 years working in commercial insurance for local brokers, before joining a Pembrokeshire company as Office Manager and Company Secretary for 16 years. While he was there, Andrew managed the company’s insurance needs, giving him insight into customer expectations with their insurances.
Having returned to insurance 3 years ago, Andrew requalified with a Certificate in Insurance and is now working towards his Diploma. He is the newest member of the team in Pembrokeshire and says he is happy to be part of a company with such strong customer service values.
Andrew is married and has two children. When he’s not in work, he enjoys playing 5-a-side football, playing golf and photographing wildlife. Andrew is a member of the Rotary Club of Milford Haven.
Brian Hawkins – Account Executive
Having worked in insurance since the age of 16, Brian has 34 years of experience in the field. Brian has worked at Thomas Carroll in Pembrokeshire since 2014, and previously worked for one other local broker.
Since working for Thomas Carroll, Brian has gained his Diploma qualification. He restarted his CII exams after 20 years, which he says is down to the support he has received from the business. Brian enjoys working with the growing team at Pembrokeshire and seeing the branch expand.
Outside of work, Brian is football mad. Previously a referee for the Welsh Premier League, Brian has been the secretary of the Pembrokeshire Football League, West Wales FA Council member and Referee’s observer for the past 13 years.
Martin Colley – Account Broker
Originally from London, Martin has lived in Fishguard since 2001. Martin entered the insurance industry later, having worked as a Barrister’s Clerk in London for 28 years. For the past 5 years, Martin has worked for Thomas Carroll in Pembrokeshire as an Account Broker and enjoys working with the close-knit team.
Socially, Martin’s interests lie in sport and music. He is the secretary of the junior section of Fishguard Sports AFC and helps with the training of the under 15s. When he isn’t acting as a taxi service for his children, he enjoys an occasional round of golf (and is currently the Thomas Carroll champion).
Amber Lloyd – SME Graduate Insurance Broker
Pembrokeshire-born Amber studied Business Management at Carmarthen University. After a stint working in retail, Amber came across an exciting opportunity to join the Thomas Carroll Pembrokeshire team and now holds the position of SME Graduate Insurance Broker.
Amber enjoys the challenging yet rewarding environment that she works in and the opportunities to progress within the company. With her strong support network in the Pembrokeshire office, Amber is currently working towards her CII qualifications.
In her spare time, Amber likes to be active, including long walks along the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast!
Kevin Phillips – Claims Executive
With 22 years in the insurance industry, Kevin has worked at Thomas Carroll for the last 4 years after moving back to Haverfordwest. He is currently Claims Executive for Thomas Carroll’s Pembrokeshire and Swansea offices.
Kevin enjoys the diversity that comes with his role, including client visits. He enjoys the sense of belonging that working for Thomas Carroll brings. Outside of work, Kevin likes to keep fit by playing for his local football team, going to the gym and running.
